The client broke the socket-connection before sending a complete request. mod_dav reads client request from a bucket-brigade (see http://www.apachetutor.org/dev/brigades for an overview). If getting the next bucket fails, you get that message. The primary cause I've see is a client breaking a connection before completing the PUT.
