I'm hoping to push 1.9.0 out as a release later this month. (Though saying this I'm acutely aware that I said the same in Apr, and May, and Jun... )
I'll double check that 1.9.0-SNAPSHOT version of the archetype works from the cmd line (but it should, as Martin says).
