doh! it must be a combination of oracle server version and jdbc driver version. it works with oracle 10 (current and previous version of OracleFileSystem). anyway, it's weird hat it is intermittent. it should either work or fail every time. what versions are you using? do you have any more details, logs, etc? thanks for the feedback, stefan
