you mentioned you use Ubuntu, so you can configure (or ask somebody to
configure) the new disk as raid (0 or 5), jbod etc. Of course I am
assuming you are using a file system based persistence manager. If you
are using a DB, then you will probably want to find out how to add space
to the DB.
In any case, I don't really think is a Jackrabbit issue, more
Linux/system administration.

Not sure what you mean - you could stop your app, install a larger
drive, move Jacrkabbit storage files there and restart.
You seem to imply that you need more than this, but I don't see
exactly what it is you're missing from the above scenario.
