AFAIK there is, technically, no upper limit on the number of nodes you may have. It may be limited by the underlying Persistence Manager or Data Store implementation you use.
However, note that Jackrabbit is not horizontally scalable due to its journal implementation which is uses to keep indexes and SISM cache in sync across cluster. So if you are planning to scale your operations by adding more nodes then please do study and try few tests before taking a decision.
