ok thanks for the clarification. Is there a difference between Linux and
other Unixes or should this be pretty much the same? I run Fuseki on
FreeBSD and Solaris as well.

I'd expect them to be the same but I don't have any input to confirm that. Do you have any figures?

I currently think its a windows matter in the handling of mmap files (from java).
