That's totally confusing and it's not clear what you're doing. SPARQL? Using the Jena datastructures?
"fetch name of student" -> obviously the name of the RDF resource that you assigned to "student" will be returned. In SPARQL , given that you use UNION or VALUES, both will be returned.
