Patrick, As long as I know the air interface is independent of kannel. On a CDMA network there should be a SMSC (Short Message Service Centre) that sends the short messages to the mobile switch using some standart protocol (generally IS-41). At the same time the SMSC interacts with External Short Message Entities with another protocol, for example SMPP. In this scenario kannel is an external short message entity.
