Ilari, I had some similar problems with the nokia 6210 on a win2k system. The problem was to do with the 6210 in my case, it can be quite unreliable.
I'm not sure how to check in linux, but in win2k it is advisable to check the nokia modem is working correctly by sending the AT command from within hyperterminal on win2k. I'm sure you can figure linux's equivalent to this. This was usually where my configuration failed - at the connection to the nokia phone. I wouldnt reccomend using a nokia in a production environment, perhaps the Siemens M20 Terminal may be more suited to your needs and your budget. HTH, Dave
