That's the response from the smsbox, but only tells you that the smsbox has accepted the sendsms request. The most effective approach would be to request a delivery report - Kannel won't know whether the number is valid or not. Basically, configure the message store and request a delivery report for the message(s), either by using dlrurl in sendsms cgi, or dlr-url in the sendsms-user group. I think the user guide has more.
