Hi,

You can you GSM phones as virtual SMSC as described in Userguide. In linux you don't require drivers for modem, you directly send AT commands to serial port /dev/ttyS0. So just connect modem to system and test modem using tools like minicom in linux. About free SMSC centers, I never heard of one, specially in India.

Hope this helps you

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this list. Please help us with the following.

We want to use Kannel with a GSM Modem or a GSM phone for sending and recieving SMS Messages.

It seems that the compatible devices that are mentioned
  • Nokia Premicell
  • Siemens M20
  • Wavecom WM02-G1800 modem

must have a linux driver but searching for these products on internet does not reveal any such info.

Could anyone please confirm if we can buy one of these and get the associated linux driver too so that we can do things like device = /dev/ttsy0 in conf files.

Also it will be great if you could tell us of any free SMS Centre services available where we can test the system.
