It's with Ericsson T28 and upwards, that it uses phone memory for SMS
until the slots are used and then goes over to use the SIM-memory. This
is the behavior when i use my phone during the day.

The T28s only support mode 3 and mt 0, 1 and 3. 

If i choose mode 1 i get the following output in the bearerbox log:
