we tried using new-line "/n" and it works for Nokia phones, but other phones do not understand it. Sagem phone even showed only first line before "\n", and dropped rest of the text.
Perhaps you should consider SIM Toolkit, but you will be an operator dependent and another choice is to use WAP push.

Hello all,
We are trying to format SMS messages to included control characters (CR LF &
others) and have not been able to get the phones to format the message
correctly in the screen. We want to have the message appear like a title
plus options, i.e.
## Header Message A. Option A B. Option B Thanks ##
And for that need to insert the control characters, in the response that the
application sends to the Kannel after the GET.
We have tried \n, URL encoding, and nothing worked. The characters are presented in the screen and are not translated.
No sure if we have to specify any specific encoding or using extended http headers.
We will be initially sending these sms messages in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Luis
