I'm missing something fundamental here in the docs, and mail lists/archives,
and am having trouble in understanding what Kannel is used for - how it's
used I guess?

I more or less have it set up and working - well, it works fine in the 'fake
message' mode for SMS, and probably wap too. At least it all starts with no
errors. I can even use the web to do the admin bit...

However - I read that to actually send/receive SMS messages, I need to ....
what ?
... have internet access to a SMS Centre, like the telco, and they aren't
going to give me access, no way.
... somehow use a mobile phone as a gateway/link, which means the outgoing
SMS message will still route through the telco's service and be charged
accordingly - so just use that anyway?
... somehow use a dial up modem, to connect to where? the internet? service
call flagfall is more than the cost of SMS in that case...

As I say, I'm obviously missing something very fundamental here when it
comes to using Kanne in any useful way. Obviously too many people are using
it...

The WAP gateway I more or less understand. It simply interfaces to the wml
content pages on my server. Using the phone, I have an Ericsson T630, I can
set up a profile that goes directly to my gateway/server, not via the
telco's I believe.

anyway - If some kind soul would care to clarify this fundamental operation
a bit for me, I'd most appreciate it.

Thank you
Regards
Robert
