I would suggest that you get the most recent CVS snapshot of Kannel. Contrary to the way it seems to be for other projects, CVS seems to be more stable than the official releases. They haven't released a new "development version" in over a year (1.3.1 was released in Feb 17, 2003), and there hasn't been a "stable" release in almost two years (1.2.1 was released Nov 2, 2002).
