Yes its currently impossible with Kannel. What you need is something like a smppbox instead of smsbox (which listens HTTP), which will simulate SMPP Server for you.  Stipe once mentioned that they have something like smppbox in their setup but I don't think its available openly yet. But even if you manage to get a SMPPBOX, you will not be able to connect to a SMSC using it as connection interface. You could take a look at code gwlib/socket.c might be a good place to start. So changing the 0 to your port would not work unless are sure it is the only instance called. You only want to change smpp port read man bind and man socket and all that stuff if you want to edit code you don't need to do this why do you want to? James.
