Decide on a unique keyword for your polling application (for ex: myPollingApp) and start rolling. Your SMS users can vote by sending text "myPollingApp [yes/no/1/0/x/y]" to destination 1234. Inexpensive, easy to roll out, and should not even take minutes to launch if u have ur polling app ready and advertised. 2. Get a new short code of your own. Here a provider can also help you by approaching MNO and assigning a new short code for your service. The benefit is that you don't need to define a keyword to identify your application. SMS users can directly send text "[yes/no/1/0/x/y]" to the short code assigned to you. This solution may cost you more than the previous one. 3. Get two short codes for "yes" or "no" votes. Costlier than previous ones for obvious reasons. In todays SMS business, short codes are available on premium... You don't need 2 way SMS. Just allowing for MO on a short code should be suffice. This unless, you would like to respond back to SMS users. Just watch out for the throughput requirements of your polling app... HTH, Jeetendra |
