definetly _can_ confirm this to work. The Vodafone D2 (Germany) group uses dedicated GPRS points with Kannel WAP gateway for corporate WAP access to customers.
GPRS is below the WAP layer stack. It's only a matter of IP stack. So it's not up to Kannel which kind of radio transmission technology provides the IP stack capabilies. It can the CSD (circuit switched data) or GPRS, or even UMTS, as long as UDP packets are transported over the IP stack.
I did traces with ethereal and it seems that nokia phones talk differently...

If the phone is WAP 1.2.1 (or even 2.0) compliant, then it has to be tested with Kannel as WAP gateway. Since Kannel is one of the 3 reference gateways at OpenGroup REFPOOL, which is the certification authority of WAP Forum (now OMA).
