Thanks a lot for the help

the configure line in the original configure is 
/*        MYSQL_LIBS="$($MYSQL_CONFIG --libs)"*/

and after changing to the 
MYSQL_LIBS="$($MYSQL_CONFIG --libs | sed 's/\x27//g')"

and changing the mysql version from the default mysql-3.23.58-1 which
comes with Red Hat to  4.0.17-0 and the 
its working fine.
