I should have understood this by definition "not connection oriented",
but there was one clause in user's guide (which I cannot find any more)
which made me think that smsc somehow waits for response when delivering
MO message.

Hi Marko,

    At "SMS level" there is no time limit, as SMS is not "connection
oriented". SMSC does not wait for any message. Following your example, your
application may receive a vote from a phone, but there is no need to send
any answer back.

    At lower levels (i.e. SMPP), transactions are handled by Kannel, so you
don't need to worry about that.
