Regarding "what do I use kannel for":

I use it to connect to many SMSCs/operators (on different countries
also), over regular TCP/IP and also over VPNs using SMPP and HTTP
APIs. I also developed a simple HTTP API with PHP to accomodate my own
requirements to connect third parties to my setup.

Regarding WAP, I just do WAP-Push but using a binary encoded message
over SMS (not using Wapbox).

Over that platform, I use it to content delivery (ringtones,
wallpapers, etc) and also interactive SMS games.

I am also starting to use SQLBox mostly to handle massive deliveries.
