you have to set the

device parameter in group = smsc

to the USB port that is used by your mobile phone. Usually their are assigned by hotplugd, looking similar to this: /dev/ttyUSB[x], where [x] is a assigned number (like /dev/ttyUSB0).

Perhaps this can help you to - I've written a small script to maintain the /dev/ttyUSB[x] addresses for several modems. This might help you to get the device address
