How many high volume users of Kannel are out there ?
I will go first and put my hand up, that the Co I represent is.
I forwarded email re the donations request to managment, and got a positive
response!
So the question is how much?
How many need to contribute for Kannel.orgs new servers?
Hi Fred,
now, we "need" mostly infrastructure. Andreas provides us with hosting capacity
for our machines. Now we're looking for some fancy new P4 Xeon SMP servers to be
hosted there. Currently we have 2 dedicated machines, of which one can be
considered production server class and the other as poor desktop class doing
backup jobs and hot-standby.
Infrastructure also means equipment for Kannel developer's itself. Like the cost
of UMTS cards and IP traffic for network connectivity, switches for home LAN, or
simply a new battery for notebooks that got into age :)
So, please let us know if management appritiates rather a money donation via
paypal, or a hardware wish-list donation. The "how much" should be answered with
"reasonable". It's hard to quote a hard number for this. Consider how much
effort Kannel and developers arround Kannel safe your own company, and estimate
a fair and reasonable ammount for donating.
Also another principle for the donation holds: the more you (and others too)
donate, the more time we (the developers) can dedicate to Kannel :) so it's the
more you give, the more you get.
Stipe
