First of all:
yes, we changed after 1.4.1 at cvs-20061006 from latin1 to utf-8 for internal
encoding.
Reasons are obvious, since we can't "loose-free" map between latin1 and gsm
03.38 encoding, so we need a "richer" encoding variant in the middle.
Obviously your issue is an impact here. Can you descibe in more details what you
do, so we can "follow" logically?!
