first of all a question: you have been using Kannel as WAP gw in a wireless
network? As production gateway?... I ask since there are some impacts with the
WAP 1.2.x gateway parts under heavy load.
Now, regarding the "support":
Yes, there are at least 3 persons that offer commercial support for Kannel,
namely:

I had implemented an exim module that was able to do the Sprint PCS SMTP to SMPP
convertion on high volumes for the US carrier.
Obviously you will want some kind of SPAM control on the SMTP port when mail is
received and forwarded to an SMPP SMSC, othwise users would be able to DOS
attack your system with SPAM mail.
