1. Does Kannel provide APIs to plug to java?
you can interact with kannel using http
2. How is the pricing done for using an SMS gateway? Say I use Kannel, then do I still have to pay to mobile service operator to send SMS?
you can connect via an smpp smsc (such as a telco or third party wholesaler) or you can use a gsm modem or phone with a sim card in it as your smsc (short message service centre).
generrally you will not be able to set the sender number unless you connect direct to a telco or third party wholesaler via an smpp platform.
3. Can the SMS be send to any model of mobile phone or the offerings of Kannel limited?
any mobile that has the capability to receive sms :P
