I had tried that before, anyway I just gave it a shot again without luck.
The modem keeps roaming, I don't even really know if that is related, but so far is only oddity seen. 


At least someone's granny will receive a darn expensive christmas lights 
embellishment this year.

As in your case the SIM chip works ok if used with a cell phone, but 
not in the modem, neither any another SIM chip.



Nothing seems to be wrong with the modem, except AT+CREG command 
reports status 5  (registered, roaming) instead of 1 (registered, 
home network) despite the fact the device is inside coverage area, 
even more, AT+COPS? shows the correct PLMN. Which means the modem is 
registered in the correct network and yet shows roaming status.



Every other function of the modem works ok, but  now I have little 
use for that device.

I gave up.
