They want to know the "device" because they are assuming that you'll use a
hardware device, but it's not the case. Just let them know the kind of setup
you have (eg. StrongSwan version X.x running on Linux Distribution Y.y with
Kernel version Z.z).

I don't know if host to host will do, you may need to use tunnel mode (since
they _do_ usually run the VPN on a dedicated hardware box) , but you have to
check with them in any case.
