Hi,

yep, the distro package maintainers tend to stick with the stable release, and
the 'generic' type is a post 1.4.1 commit to CVS.

(Which brings again a lot of noise to me with people asking me when we consider
to have a release again ;)

So please go with the CVS HEAD branch version. See the download page for how to
checkout a working copy of the source to your local machine, and then build it
on your own. This is anyway the most reliable version currently available. It's
a 1.4.2RC.
