Thanks! It seems that the errors are caused by network congestion. I'm playing with throughput and max retry settings to solve it.

try verbose responses from modem (AT+CMEE=1 or 2) to see if you get more detail.

The error 500 can be anything from phone without credit to a miss configuration of the CNMI string or even network congestion.

    Thank you Alvaro!

Another issue I have is that with some operators I do not get any
errors, but with one of them I actually get the following error very
    often:

    2008-09-23 14:53:52 [13191] [7] DEBUG: AT2[huawei]: <-- +CMS ERROR: 500
    2008-09-23 14:53:52 [13191] [7] ERROR: AT2[huawei]: CMS ERROR: +CMS
    ERROR: 500
    2008-09-23 14:53:52 [13191] [7] ERROR: AT2[huawei]: CMS ERROR: Unknown
error. -> maybe Sim storage is full? I'll have a look at it. (500)
    2008-09-23 14:53:52 [13191] [7] DEBUG: AT2[huawei]: send command status:
    1

Do you guys have any idea why does it happen? I have read it's a generic
error but I would want to know if someone else had experienced it too.
