Nikos named it right, you get the version to stdout when calling the daemon, and a more generic way should be: $ gw-config --version which shows the installed bearerbox. (depending if you used --prefix in the configure call to install the package somewhere specifically). But I agree, we should provide a --version flag to the daemons too, for sake of conformance with the "usual ways" users try to get informed which version they deal with.
