Hi,
About that, what is your bearerbox-host entry in your smsbox configuration? Can you ping it from smsbox? 
If not, you should declare it in /etc/hosts.
If yes, what is your OS, and what is your gethostbyname entry in gw-config.h?

First thing popped up to my mind, do You use FQDN for bearerbox-host
and does that host resolve correctly ?
