OK, that worked a treat!  Many thanks.

The problem was a typo in the username/password in the kannel conf file.  Once 
spotted and corrected it now works a dream.


The things that I found scary were the massive log files (>5M bytes in only a 
few seconds) and it being almost impossible to shut Kannel down.  It indicated 
to me a much more serious problem than it actually was.

I think that if the Bearerbox is unable to connect to the database it should 
panic and quit, rather than keep retrying every few milliseconds; at least 
initially.  If it's achieved a connection and then lost it then it might be 
worth trying to reconnect.

Have you configured the connection and field values properly? What about 
freetds.conf?

Try connecting with tsql and make sure that you can connect properly from that 
box using the parameters you configured on Kannel. You should be able to "use" 
the DB you configured and run the create scripts manually from tsql.

You could also try raising freetds' log level and see if you get anything 
relevant there.
