Morning, How about just saving another instance of the .conf file and put in all your configurations there? In our company's configuration we have 4 different SMSCs that are connected to us so we had 4 different names of the kannel.cof file for each of the SMSCs.
The good thing about this is that when one SMSC changes some configuration info, you only have to kill/start their .conf file e.g. one of our SMSCs is named Airtel so I just kill all instances of their boxes and run */etc/init.d/airtel start* to restart its kannel instance.
