Wondering if the below is indication of something serious, or just
random error messages:
./configure -> make works,
make check returns:
Check: checks/check_ppg.sh...bb failed with control file test/iptestppg.txt
found some suggestions in emails from 2006
tried : ./configure --bindir=/opt/kannel_20120726 --with-mysql
--with-malloc=checking
resulted in:

tried: ./configure --bindir=/opt/kannel_20120726 --with-mysql
--with-malloc=slow
configure was ok
make was ok
