Ok, it's working. For other people facing the same problem, see the ticket for 
the neccessary config parameters. They need to be added to factories.xml like 
this:
<request class="AgaviWebRequest">
        <parameters>
                <parameter name="sources">
                        <parameter 
name="SERVER_NAME">HTTP_X_FORWARDED_SERVER</parameter>
                </parameter>
        </parameters>
</request>

David, do you want me to write a short article on this for the cookbook? E.g. 
Running agavi behind a load-balancer?
