I tried unplugging the usb hub and putting the keyboard in directly and
no kybrd activity.
Then I reconnected everything to the usb hub and booted from the full
armbian SD and the kybrd is working and lsblk shows the USB stick with
AlmaLinux on it. Mouse doesn't do anything, but then I am in a
character mode.
So something is missing from the iso image that I need.

a little more output and the HDMI monitor came alive with logs of
messages. Then came something about an issue with urandom? and just
occasional flashes of USB drive activity. Finally the following
message started repeating:
dracut-initqueue [972]: Warning: dracut-initqueue timeout - starting
timeout scripts.
then some more activity and dropping into emergency mode with
instructions on what to copy to a mounted media.
Problem is the keyboard doesn't do anything. I plug and unplug it.
Now I have not tried the keyboard via usb hub with the armbian build,
but as the USB stick is also in this hub, I know that the hub is
working. I suspect if I unplug the hub and plug the keyboard in
directly, the emergency mode will not like no access to the files on
it, plus then where will I copy the files to? The sata drives are
still unformatted...
I am attaching the monitor output. At least I have the startup piece
available.
Please advise at least how I can get the keyboard working with this
configuration. Probably something is needed in that iso image to
support the HC4? Here is the console:
