This is no longer the case. The Baofeng DMR radio models have always been firmware upgradeable. Traditionally, the analog only models have not been upgradeable, but this has been slowly changing. I have at least 2 models that are firmware upgradeable. The newly released BF-F8HP PRO from Baofeng Tech (the radio dealer in the USA) being the most recent one that I have that has and will receive firmware updates.
