Dave, I'm not understanding your problem.
Your repeater, on 462.500, does it have a CTCSS tone requirement to key the repeater? If so, you must set the radio to that tone - is that where you got the 88.5 tone? If you monitor that frequency, 462.500, do you hear people on the repeater? If you have the proper tone set, and the setting is for Tone, to send the proper CTCSS tone when you transmit, do you hear the repeater after you stop transmitting? If you set the proper tone and choose tonesq, you will only hear people if the repeater transmits the tone you've set. You could be struggling with one or more issues: - Distance, the repeater is just too far away - Settings, you may not have the correct freq or CTCSS tone - lack of traffic, there just may be no one using the repeater when you are If you think you've done everything right, and you've set the tone setting to Tone (not Tonesq), I'd suggest just turning the radio on sitting in the charging cradle, monitoring the repeater 24x7 and see if you hear anything - I don't think GMRS repeaters are used that often, but some organizations may use the repeater for nets or other on-air activity, and just leaving the radio on will help you find out if/when the repeater is used. Have you tried reaching the repeater owner?
