I had the same exact problem after upgrading to 4.1.3-0 from 3.3.1-0 but I never got a clear answer on what the problem is. The best I could figure out was somewhere in the upgrade the hibernate.mysql.cfg.xml file got corrupted. Replacing it with an uncorrupted version got my back-end running again.
