The most likely reason for this is that the original email was opaquely signed (as opposed to clear text signed) and then encrypted. An opaquely signed email is an S/MIME signed email containing an smime.p7m attachment. It's not encrypted, only digitally signed, but you need an S/MIME capable email client in order to view it. One solution is to tell the CipherMail gateway to remove the signature (see advanced S/MIME settings "Remove signature"). The CipherMail gateway will then convert the email into a readable email.
