My laptop is only a few years old.  Seems funny the video card wouldn't
be supported by the nvidia driver.

There's a lot of talk on this list about THE nvidia driver.

There are many of them and they claim to support different chipsets.
Here's the 'legacy' list.  I believe rpmfusion provides most of them.
