FWIW, my Acer Laptop reports "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics

loaded?" when using "synclient -l". Yet my touchpad works just fine. KDE has
a setting
for disabling the touchpad, but it doesn't work. Lucky for me my laptop has a
"Fn+F7" key
combination which turns off the touchpad hardware wise.

Mine is a Synaptics, and it works great with "synclient TouchpadOff=1"
so I think I'm good!

That works for now, but likely will stop working in the future or with a clean install. The Synaptics driver is deprecated, libinput is the new way and synclient won't work with it.
