Quite some time ago I'd played with a couple of old Wacom USB drawing
tablets. They all worked without any drivers, like a mouse or
trackpad.

If you wanted fuller features, like the extra buttons, either you
needed a driver, or a program that knew about using them. At one stage
I got GIMP to use the thing properly, but so long ago that I've
forgotten how. During a recent attempt, I couldn't work it out again.

I gave away the tablet (I have no drawing skills, a child with crayons
is about my level), so I can't do any more tests.

I don't think it's pure coincidence that "officialdom" sounds the
same as "official dumb."
