I'm afraid I can't answer your other questions but for this, in Cinnamon, go to the screensaver applet in 'System Settings' and select 'Never' from 'Delay before Starting the Screensaver'. Yes, it's not the clearest of commands, but it works. 'Never' should be at the top of the dropdown menu, so scroll up if you have to.
