Continuing issues now updated tor F42. The desktop manager that works is lxdm. trying gnome gives a sad face and the message

A problem has occurred and the system can't recover

plasma cycles to a screen showing the wallpaper with no actions available

can access the system with lxde an most features are available. However, graphics are limited.  nvidia-settings doesn't show anything under Graphics Information

The kinfocenter window shows up with a section of the current display and non of the expected entries. Problem has persisted through several kernel updates and reinstall of akmods.

What settings could cause this?
