User manual indicates this.  Says something like "to get maximum
playback speed you may have to copy the data to your hard drive
and playback from there".

This model requires 2 host USB ports.  The 500mA 5V supply
of a single USB-2 port is insufficient.

By that, you mean a blu-ray drive that's plugged into an AC outlet, right?

Let's put the optical drive discussion aside for a while.  I need to get the installation figured out.
