Nothing in /var/log/messages... and journalctl -u dnf > returns nothing.
dnf is not a 'unit' so that call to journalctl won't show anything. You'd need to scroll through the history around the time of the update (e/g/ 'journalctl --since <date>'). Alternatively, see 'man dnf-history', though if dnf failed I don't know if it will show anything.
