First one was a notebook that had a clean install of Fedora 42, and it did the dnf upgrade to 43, and rebooted just fine.
Other two were machines currently 6 timezones away from where I am. those seemed to do the upgrade just fine for the download part, and then did the option to reboot and install. Thought everything was going fine, but on both of these machines, will upgrade was installing, could not see machines because it was offline upgrade, but then it started responding to pings, but found all ports but 631 were closed ( was another port, but don't recall. Neither the VNC or the ssh port were available. even from machine sitting next to it. Got brother to restart both of them, and then they seemed to be fine. The latest one was a complete fail, but was on a notebook right here with me. Again did the dnf upgrade and it downloaded all the packages, and prompted to do the offline upgrade which I did. Note in all cases, I had uninstalled all the wine packages, since was aware of that issue. Saw the reboot, and watched it go thru the update on boot. No error messages, and then it rebooted. Saw the Fedora 43 kernel option, and older Fedora 42 kernels, but it booted to fedora 43 kernel. Thought every thing was OK, but then ran a dnf update to update any packages. This is when it was showing Fedora 42 packages for everything, so that then failed with a message about the wrong GCCLIB? Tried rebooting to a Fedora 42 kernel, but it also failed. And then rebooting had it dump to a rescue prompt with the login of root, but could not find anything to fix issues. Did then boot to my G4L project kernel which is part of boot. Have spent the last two days copying all the files to various flash drives to backup all data. Have just done a clean install of Fedora 43 on machine, and it seemed to go ok. But now going thru major issues. 1. Tried to change the root user password. do sudo su and go thru process to change password, but it fails?? Originally, used passwd and it was giving a message about failure with Management token. Did finally get it to work, but have to use su -l, other machine works fine with just su? Old system had over 4,000 packages installed, so running dnf at the moment to install all the additional ones. Only one package came up with missing dependency, so it is being skipped. Was able to copy all my files from user directory and / and a data directory. dnf just download 4435 packages, but then failed since the RPMfusiong signatures wasn't installed, so have to copy that... So, not a happy camper... Should have used my G4L to make an image before doing update. That way could have just restored it. But takes time to image a 1TB disk. Having to try and get system in running shape... +------------------------------------------------------------+ Michael D.
