Sorry Samuel, I didn't mean to send this directly. I think the
issue
might have been that this thread was one where I wasn't given the
option
of "Reply List", I was only given "Reply" or "Reply All" as
happens from
time to time.
That happens when the message you are replying to doesn't have the
List-* headers that Reply-to-list (RTL) requires. This in turn is
because the poster of that message didn't use RTL, perhaps because
they
were replying to an earlier post that didn't have the headers
either.
If everyone used RTL instead of Reply-to-all (RTA), this wouldn't
be a
problem, but they don't, so it is.
If it happens to you, RTA is the only correct recourse. Some
mailers
(<cough>Evolution<cough>) have a "Group Reply" button which will Do
the
Right Thing (i.e. fall back to RTA if RTL isn't possible). I don't
know
if Thunderbird has this.
(I used RTL for this message of course, because I could).
poc
Thunderbird doesn't appear to give me that option, but for this mail
it
gave me "Reply List" as the top option in a list, where the other two
entries were "Reply All" and "Reply".
That's because I used Reply-to-list in replying to you.
poc
Hi Patrick, yes, I've noticed that all replies you do are tagged with a
list-id header so I'm always provided with the option to reply to the
list. It's just that mails to the list are not always tagged that way,
some I only get the "reply" option for and others I only get the "Reply
All" option. There is also always a separate "Reply" button but I try
not to use that for the list mails.
